Kathryn Abbey Hanna Park

The park is known for its 1.5 miles of sandy beach and is home to a premier surfing spot in Northeast Florida known as The Poles. Your family can also enjoy over twenty miles of hiking and biking trails for more physical activity on your trip. The Kid’s Splash Park provides fun for everyone, especially families with younger children.

Comb the beach for shark teeth and enjoy all the nature that Little Talbot Island has to offer. This state park is most known for its five miles of undeveloped beaches and a wide variety of beautiful bike trails. Its untouched natural beauty is perfect for a relaxing family getaway. 

Half an hour north of Mayport (by ferry), Little Talbot Island State Park has many unique wildlife species for you and your family to observe. Pick up a bird checklist from a ranger station and you’ll spot many species of birds on the island. 

There are also canoes and kayaks available for family fun on the water. Be sure to bring your bike to travel from the park campgrounds to the North Beach coast.

Fort Clinch State Park 

Spend the weekend at one of Florida’s oldest state parks, located on the northernmost point of Amelia Island. Fort Clinch State Park is perfect for a family looking to enjoy nature and observe Civil War history. 

The 1400-acre fort was a Union garrison in the 1800s and offers historical entertainment like the firing of cannons and battlefield demonstrations. The park is also known for its abundance of wildlife and 3.3 miles of paved trails for biking. 

The campground features 61 different campsites. These great camp spots include a fire ring, picnic table, and water/electric hookups. Many families also enjoy fishing along the banks of the Amelia River, so be sure to pack your fishing rods.

Blue Spring State Park 

Take a dip in Florida’s natural pools while you spend the weekend adventuring outdoors at Blue Spring State Park. Located in Orange City, Florida, the state park offers year-round fun for your family. Schedule a trip during the winter months to watch manatees swim through the park’s warm spring waters. 

The park offers two-hour boat rides to get a closer look at wildlife and scenery. Plan a family hike on Blue Spring’s seven-mile hiking trail located along the river. This is the perfect opportunity to enjoy the beautiful Florida scenery while the little ones burn off energy.
