Black Business Month: Local Businesses to Support in Jacksonville

The Jacksonville community is made up of an incredibly diverse group of people. One of the highlights of being surrounded by such diversity is the chance to learn about other backgrounds, cultures, and life experiences. One way you can get out and show Moore Love is by supporting some of the awesome minority-owned businesses around town. This month, make it a priority to check out some of these black-owned businesses.

Where to Shop

As fashion trends constantly change with the seasons, sometimes new wardrobe pieces are a necessity. Instead of shopping online or heading to St. Johns Town Center again, visit some local boutiques that are spread across Jacksonville. By shopping locally, you will be giving back to the community all while revamping your style!

Next time you’re out and about in San Marco make sure to visit Meow and Barks Boutique for clothing just as unique as its name. They have a wide range of sizes and an online platform you can order from if unable to find exactly what you’re looking for in the store. A lot of their collections center around bright colors and trendy patterns making them your new go-to for a fresh summer look.

Another amazing black-owned boutique you should to add to your list of places to hit is the Classic Maven Boutique in Springfield. This store is all about providing sophisticated, quality clothes to women of all body types. At this award-winning business, you will be encouraged to embrace your body’s beauty allowing you to walk out feeling more confident than you did when you entered. When shopping at the Classic Maven, you will also help give back to the community as 10% of all their sales each month go to a deserving local organization.

Where to Eat

There seems to be a never-ending list of yummy restaurants you have yet to try in Jacksonville, but if you’re specifically interested in some good food from a local, black-owned business, we know just where you should go.

If still in the Springfield area after getting some shopping done, head over to The Cookbook Restaurant known for their yummy seafood, gumbo, and shrimp and grits. Although the food will speak for itself, it is important to note that the owner has been nominated for the Best Boss Awards by Best Boss Group USA, an organization that nominates some of the best African American Entrepreneurs across Jacksonville!

Regardless of any dietary restrictions or lack thereof, you should make a point to check out Kravegan, a local black-owned restaurant dedicated to making some of the tastiest vegan soul food that even the most carnivorous of eaters will enjoy. Chef LaTasha Kaiser has been perfecting her craft for over 30 years and has quickly made this spot a must-try for people across the city.
